Export scenario

What You Can Export

The export feature is available to Hektar Pro users. It lets you download any scenario you are viewing as a set of files that can be opened in standard 3D modelling and spreadsheet tools.

Each export contains three files:

  • Rhinoceros 3D file (.3dm): the native format for Rhino. Preserves all geometry layers and is the recommended format if you plan to continue refining the design in Rhino or Grasshopper.
  • Generic 3D file (.obj): a widely supported format that opens in most 3D modelling software, including SketchUp, Blender, and 3ds Max. Useful when handing off to teams that do not use Rhino.
  • Excel spreadsheet (.xlsx): contains the statistics for the scenario in tabular form, including unit counts, areas, and ratios. Useful for further calculation or for pasting into feasibility reports.

How to Export

Inside any project, the navbar contains a row of tool icons. Among them is a download icon. Pressing the download icon exports the scenario you are currently viewing.

If you want to export a different scenario, switch to that scenario first, then press download. Each export captures exactly the scenario that is active when the button is pressed.

What the Export Includes

The 3D files are organized into layers that correspond to the different functions and geometry types in your scenario. Buildings, parking, roads, and zones each sit on their own layer, which makes it straightforward to isolate or modify specific elements after import.

The context surrounding your site, including neighbouring buildings and the terrain mesh, can be included in the export. This is useful when you want the receiving software to show the site in its full context rather than as an isolated parcel.

When to Export

Export is most useful at the handoff point between feasibility and detailed design. The generative scenario in Hektar captures the early decisions about massing, density, and layout. Continuing in Rhino or another tool lets the design team develop the details without losing the structural choices that came out of feasibility.
