Sky View Factor

Definition

Sky View Factor (SVF) define the amount of the skydome visible from the first floor of the building facade.

Ranking

Hektar features Sky View Factor for parcel typologies as a generative driver. Applied to our extensive architectural library it is possible to answer various “what if” scenarios for an informed design process. Please note that the ranking strategy is approximative. It is meant as a generative driver and is not conclusive. I.e., it guide design and do not constitute any verification. Scores per typology and ranking metric are normalized between 0 and 1

Control points

The edges used for control points are all building facades except gables.

Ray-tracing

Sky View Factor is collected for all individual control points. Influenced by context. Minimizes the amount of control points not receiving sufficient access to the sky dome with Linear interpolation of score between thresholds.
